Ran rain go away, drench no more with dreary tales;
Tales of greed, tales of strife, tales of woes, tales
Of death, tales of man’s cruelty to another.
Evil like a pregnant cloud, drips and trips
The innocent and the mean; dripping gloom,
Dripping doom, dripping losses all around.
The news agog is misery still; spreading far,
Spreading near, spattering lives with pain and grief.
We fell and dug trenches all around
We rose and raised our walls as well, eyes of distrust
Peering across: yet good salutes from every side
Unexpected, uncelebrated, yet its influence grows.
Though evil lives, good is not dead
Though evil thrives, good will always win.
Daily news regale us with tales of woes; outbreak of diseases without cure, selfish politicians and their desperate agendas that plunge lives of ignorant and innocent masses in jeopardy, fanatics with faces of terror unleashing mayhem here and there, wickedness in corridors of power, exploitations of the vulnerable by the influential, multiple tragedies of the poor who are as hopeless as they are helpless before the desperately rich, just name it. Good news barely sells. Terrible ones spread like wildfire and incite a followership which tend to glamorizes depravities that should not be sensationalized. Such is the time we live in.
The result is that everyone turns wary; quick to observe ills while good slips by unnoticed. Intensely, we watch with eyes of suspicion. What we see confirms the fears within, fueling distrust. Any wonder people are losing it left, right and center? Crazy things happen in a crazy world and it makes one wonder, “Is good lost to all these madness?”
The media will have us believe that all is lost: everyone’s gone bad, evil has overtaken good and we are all doomed. I do not deceive myself that evil is not part of the reality of the world we live in. It doesn’t end there. I am also aware that good yet abounds. You think you and I will still be alive today if the population of the evil is more than the good? Take a look at regions where bad apples are concentrated and see the effects. Switch that number and the world would be a past tense.
We are free today because in spite of the wicked, there are good people who fought and still fight for our freedom. In spite of the mean politicians, there are still kind hearted folks who truly want to serve their people and nation. In spite of callous authorities and neighbors wasting lives, there are still generous ones who are sacrificing so much to save so much more. In every nation and profession, through every category of life, despite the traitors, the faithful are more. You won’t have a home and a job to go to if they weren’t – look around the globe again if you doubt this.
Things are bad quite alright but it could have been worse so let’s be thankful for where we are and for what we have. People are terrible, agreed but it doesn’t change the truth that there are many good and kind hearted people around. In spite of all the frauds, murders, rapes, robberies, and terrors broadcasted daily by the media, there are much more good deeds that will never make the news, countless good people whose loyal and faithful contributions keep us well and safe. Keep your heart open for the good and though you encounter the bad, don’t give up. Keep your eyes open for the good and when observed, stop and appreciate them because they keep our neighborhood and the world from imploding: if you doubt it, look a little farther . . . .
Glory!
