Fall can make and fall can break
Depending on how you take it.
A fall at dusk, blame it on darkness
A fall at dawn whose fault, miscalculation?
Trip over assumption and presumption
Not tested, trusted before confirmation
Errors that could equal a fatal product:
Fall steps in to check the summation
So we can recalibrate and recalculate.
Fall may be rendering favor, posting our bail
Lending its back to spare us crashing.
Fall becomes our chance for change
To test assumptions, revalidate calculations
And confirm conclusions before we act.
Fall can be the arms of grace
Extended to save, to spare, to help.
Every fall is not a loss, lest we mourn
Rescues that should be celebrated.
This month, the daily devotions have been exploring the different aspects and impacts of taking a fall. Whenever things don’t work the way we planned, we tag them as loss and grieve. What we miss is that there are events God allows, to cost us a little now, so we can save so much more in future. Those who did not pay that little now are bound to pay so much more in the future. Which of the two options would you prefer? I choose the former.
Given that we live in times when many would go for what they can get now rather than wait a little longer, I know some of us would choose the later. Funny enough, life does not ask our permission on what it serves each day. We are therefore left to make the choices we can, with the things we can, for the best we can see from where we stand per time. I am learning to enjoy every day that God gives me breath, to accept the things that come with each, and to do the best I can to make the most of each.
Some days will come lifting, others will come humbling but we should continually pray for eyes of faith that look beyond the obvious so that we know what and when to celebrate, to mourn, to work, and to sit back and relax. One of the worst things we can do is to mourn events that should be celebrated because we are ignorant of purpose. May God give us eyes that truly see, ears that hear, hearts that understand, and bodies that cooperate accordingly.
Definitely nobody likes to fall or to fail in anything. We all want progress but God’s definition of success is not tied to profits alone. Reality remains that there are times we hit the ground for whatever the reasons may be. No matter how awful the plunge appears, life has taught that fall carries some good which can only be harvested when handled with the right attitude.
Some of us hate for our weakness to show. We hate to be seen below standards we would rather uphold. But guess what? Don’t hate falls. Hate defeats us whenever and wherever we fall and therein lies the sting. Look beyond the fall, take the lessons in it with meekness and move on. Pay too much attention to a fall and you can’t go past it. Don’t pay attention to those who choose to focus on where and why you fell. Take the fall, learn the way and keep moving: there’s nothing fearful in falling: the dread is in getting lost or drowned where we fell because we failed to learn that every fall carries the promise of another rising.
Fall is not an end. Instead, fall compels change. Fall qualifies us for restoration. Waiting, at the corner of every fall, is a rising. No fall is meant to keep us down. Every fall bears wings that lift farther and takes higher, the teachable who learn to mine their flops. Every fall is full of lessons and blessings so learn from each and move accordingly. Bearing this in mind: “And we know that all things work together for good to those who love God, to those who are the called according to His purpose,” (Romans 8: 28), let your attitude towards taking a fall be transformed. Do the best you can to stand. And whenever you find yourself down, pick up yourself, take the lessons along and keep moving: our faithful God will sure perfect all that concerns you.
Glory!
