We are champions in our shells
We are the judge and the jury
We make and we break our laws
We exist, only within the confines
Of what we see, of what we know
O what shortsighted reality
Until the day we make the choice
To decamp our comfy creation
Into a world to us unknown
Into a path with ends unseen.
We may pause to ponder
The sense in our present walk
Though we get lost and wander
Unable to tell the way, the end
Yet hand-in-hand with patience
Side by side with persistence
Wonders unknown kiss our sight
In moments unexpected
In ways least expected
Because we find ourselves
Where we never expected.
I love biographies! True life stories always win my priority attention any day and I have read, listened to and watched not a few. Despite the disparities in personalities and experiences, the end product of the application of the courage of ordinary men and women glow in extraordinary colors. Whereas some understand the implication of the lived experiences of these heroes and heroines, such stories have some of us wishing we were in their shoes; that we lived their times and realities, that we demonstrated the lauded courage, that we accomplished the celebrated feats. But wishes aren’t horses.
We read of adventurers who made and are yet inventing landmark discoveries. We marvel: how awesome! Yes, and O how risky too! Life is adventure waiting to be discovered, filled with treasures itching to be recovered and enjoyed. But the majority of us are waiting; waiting for life to come to us, waiting for adventures to find us, waiting for good fortunes and times to land in our hands, waiting for the very life we yearn to live. But life is flexible, moving every day with those living it and waiting for those who are waiting for it. Every moment of every day, life is being, moving irrespective of where we are, yet dependent on what we make of it. That may sound sacrilegious but life is dependent on what we make of what comes our way. Maybe it’s time to quit cooking excuses: life is a product of our choice and not the other way round.
Nobody was born bold, brave and courageous. Those attributes speak of how we emerged from the oven of living, and are accessible to everyone who is willing to go past their doubts, to let go of fear, and quit waiting for a fate that is waiting for their step of faith in order to transform dreams to reality. There is no perfect moment in life but as we step out by faith, we are made perfect for the moments of our lives. There is no better time to do what should be done than now. Tomorrow is too late so stop waiting and start living.
Glory!
