I look into the eyes of the Almighty
And see the heart of Sovereignty
A wonder beyond beholding
A wonder beyond the eyes of man
And in wonder, I stare agape:
I could stare forever
Into such loveliness
And never tire, and never weary
I could stare forever
And in wonder find the answer
“I can get as close as I ever can
And know all I am able to, yet
Will I never know You enough!”
Loving God is not a profession we can practice for years and then retire. It is not a process we check into and out of as we please. It is not a hobby we take up every once in a while. It is not recreation we engage in when we feel like. It is not entertainment we indulge when we have the time. It is not work that we have to do whether we want to, feel like, or not. It is not an activity to be scheduled into our free periods. It is an eternal adventure that starts now, not accident we stumble into.
It is the disciplined effort that accompanies a conscious decision that was birthed by a deliberate choice: to love God. And no matter how much and for how long we have loved God, we never can love Him enough. A lifetime is not enough to love God. That is why this love transcends these times and this place. We are not loving God with our own love, a love fashioned of and by ourselves. No, our love toward God is a return of the original love with which He awakened us to true love.
All we are doing is, having awakened to the consciousness of the awesomeness of His love, having enjoyed that love, having grown in it, having been nurtured and groomed in it, we bear the fruit of that same love and from the first fruit of God’s love within, we return surpassing love to the Founder and Finisher of our dearly loved life. It is out of what we have been given that we give back to God, love for love, true and pure. And because the original love sprang from eternity, this time and place is not enough to exhaust it so come eternity, we are loving God all the way.
