How dare you dare me
Do you know who I am?
I am not what you think I am
I am not who you assume
I am more than what you think
I am way above your assumption
So before you utter another word
Think and think again
Because I am not that person
You can take for a ride!

O how we hate to be disrespected! Who wants to be treated as nobody even if they were nobody? How much worse will someone who considers himself “someone of value” deign any treatment that is beneath his personal estimation? Oftentimes it is not pride but simply a desire to be paid our due respect. Every one of us irrespective of our status and condition wants to be given nothing less than our due regard.

Yet God’s only Son, left all that was due Him, so He could accept all that is due us, in order to save us from eternal damnation. Jesus chose to set aside His glory, step away from the place of honor, came down to earth in garments of flesh and blood, to be disrespected by those He sought to honor, betrayed by those He called friends, falsely accused, denied justice, condemned and crucified by those He came to save. As He died suffering, they were cursing and celebrating the demise of Him who came to set them free. Little did they know that He was dying in their place. Thank God Jesus didn’t change His mind in the face of the vicious hatred that was poured upon Him.

Today, may we not forget that if He didn’t do what He did, we wouldn’t be who we are today. If He didn’t give up His rights, He wouldn’t have come for us. If He didn’t come, He wouldn’t have died for us. If He didn’t die, He wouldn’t have been raised to life. And if Christ wasn’t resurrected, life would have been a hopeless adventure in helpless. But thank God Jesus gave it all up for us. Thank God He died and was raised again to life everlasting. And because He lives to die no more, we have everlasting life. As we celebrate His death today, may we be like Jesus who did not cling to what was due Him, whose love was steadfast in the face of hatred, and for these was raised to the Most High position at the right hand of the Father. May the sacrifice of Christ on the cross be valued and honored in our hearts and through our lifestyles.

Glory!
