I am stretched so thin and taut, at snap point
Constantly juggling petty tasks of yesterday
That metamorphosed into emergency monsters
Simply because I delayed them until today.
Anxious and agitated, I desperately struggle
To catch up with the ticking fingers of time
As I wonder how my present got cluttered
And is now littered with carryovers from pasts.
The further I push each, the costlier it is to close
So thrashing to untangle the complications of
Deferred on my now, I sink deeper in trouble
That seems to have suddenly become my lot
Because I assumed there’d always be time
Enough: I thought time was mine to set.

Had I known that time is always now, not later
That my best shot belongs to today, not reserved
For tomorrow, that whenever has no reference,
That time is nobody’s proprietary property,
That though we wish, want and wait, time is
A journey of no return, with no check points
And no upsets whatsoever, that those who
Think they have all the time suddenly wake
To the bitter reality that it is already late,
That time waits for nobody, and most of all
That champions live their best and their last
Today because there are no guarantees
Tomorrow, it is only a bonus if we make it:
Had I known that time has no feelings….

There are times we feel very comfortable and confident with our achievements, position, and possessions. Fully in control, we cruise as we please. We do what we want and leave the ones we don’t feel like attempting yet. Why? Because we can do them later, there will always be time to get to those.

We affix our attention and spend our resources on things we consider priority at that time. Then comes the time that it seems our world is falling apart and we are frantic to attend the piling issues that are threatening to overwhelm our limited resources. At such times, we feel disadvantaged so we let things be, after all what difference will it make if it is done today or tomorrow? Tomorrow stretches into next week and time leaves us behind, bereft with the things we refused to attend.

Unfortunately, one thing that is common, whether we are having a mountain top or rock bottom experience, is the tendency to leave things until later; until tomorrow, next week, next month, next year, and so on. Then we forget. Due dates arrive and we are embarrassed, wondering how we lost out of all the time that we had to do what we should but eventually didn’t do. Fear sets in, followed by regrets both of which aids the situation.

That we have enough time is just a notion. Every day comes with its own challenges and our daily duty is to attend to the issues of the day. Why bug tomorrow down by overloading it with today’s concerns? Procrastination neither solves problems nor makes them go away. Unattended issues only gets more complicated with time. While you have today, give it your all. Resign from carrying over things from the past into the present and the future. God’s grace is enough for each day so exhaust the grace of each day and be content.

Glory!
