As I waited on the Lord for wisdom and direction for 2019, I was reminded again of this poem written by a dear friend and author, Jeanetta Marie Girgis in 2013. This poetic-prayer is mine as I go into 2019. I want to be consumed by the God who loves to save sinners, help the helpless and heal the broken. The God whose ways are perfect even though I don’t always understand them. In 2019, I want to be that child whose heart is consumed by love for such a good good Father we have. That child who will not go back but instead, will keep pressing on, pressing into His presence for that matchless intimacy with the God that loves and calls to raise the sons of men. I hope this will be your prayer too. Be blessed by the poem and Happy New Year.
I study your face Lord!
I marvel at Your words which display a different source from the Pharisees…
I drink in Your Grace and delight in Your embrace
where others have rejected me and condemned me.
I confess Lord
That I do not always understand You
But I know that You love me
Extravagantly!
Thank you Lord
For embracing outcasts
Healing incurables
Rebuking hypocrites.
Raising the status of children.
This I understand!
I want to sit at Your feet
Drink in Your words
Like wine
And have the Bread of Life not death.
Nourish my ravenous spirit!
You had powerful compassion
Which raised widows’ sons
And little girls of 12.
You transformed blind beggars
And hopeless paralytics
Into faith filled energetic praisers of God!
You marveled at the ignorance of teachers like Nicodemus
You rejoiced in the spontaneous praise of children
Who innocently recognized you as the Son of David!
Lord Save us!
Lord Save us!
We crave Your mercy and deliverance!
Drive our demons into suicidal pigs!
Clothe us in minds of humility and self control!
Forgive our Peter like denial!
Take us from Calvary to the empty tomb!
We marvel at the wounds so deep in Your hands, feet and side!
We are thunderstruck
To see You rise up in the clouds like Elijah!
We huddle in the upper room and tarry!
The rushing wind of Your Presence
Overwhelms our cowardice…
The tongues of fire
Above our heads
Burn away the doubts and intellectual barriers.
We cannot go back to fishing, tax collecting or prostitution!
The Fire of your Awesome Undeserved Mercy and Grace consumes us!
We must preach!
We must heal!
We must deliver!
We are Your modern day apostles!
Standing in our Jerusalem
Overtaken by Your Holy Spirit!
Lord Jesus.
Compelled by You… Amen.
