I know I am good, very good!
But that’s what I think of me.
I also think I’m better than they
I even think I deserve same
If not more that they earn
But that’s what I think of me.
At the end of the day
It is what it is
Not what I think of me
Not what I think of them.
At the end of the day
What comes next depends
Of what I make of what is.

Back to Jussie’s story, or rather Chicago Police’s revelation: the attack was staged, paid for by check, and the supposed suspects walked away as the victim turned the suspect. Why? If this is true, executed because he wanted more, there goes history proving yet again, the adverse consequences of pursuing good the wrong way. We are all entitled to whatever we think we are entitled to but if we don’t make the final call, the onus lies on us to make our case and let due process take its course. Will it always favor us? No. But at least we know we did the best we could. Then we leave it alone and focus on prepping ourselves for what we think we deserve. We might not get it where we are but it will come when we have been made ready and the time is right.

In these times so many are home with nothing doing, someone who had something great going just lost it. Not only is the means gone without the sought extra, there are expenses and consequences too many to count. Credibility is in shreds unless proven otherwise by courts. And even if that happens, there are some losses that may not be recovered.

I’m sure every one of us have felt at different points in time that we deserve more that we are getting and there’s nothing wrong with that. It’s in the way we go about it. Just like in Jane’s case who wanted more than she was getting, reason would ask, “Did she undertake some personal and professional developments to improve herself and her job delivery and possibly impress the employer to raise her conditions? Did she do something extra to make them feel they have to keep her by all means?

Trust me, I’ve been there and done that; personal improvement, professional advancement, aiming and accomplishing higher targets that was set and guess what? I learned that all of those are personal decisions for which the employer is not compelled to change terms that don’t favor them. Employers are in business to gain all they can and spend the least they can.

They made you an offer which you had the right to accept or reject. You accepted. If they are keeping their terms, you should keep yours. If you think it’s not fair, have a discussion or move on. As far as they are concerned, humans are replaceable resource. It’s the nature of employers everywhere so if you are mad and sad with one, maybe it’s time to get yourself ready for what’s next.
