When He feels nowhere around
And His way seems clouded
Pause: did I miss His way?
If yes, better to go back to Him
Than to accelerate in error
And if no, then we must trust
That though we feel Him not
God is always with us
And though we hear Him not
God is always speaking
Wait until you can hear again
Until you can see the way again.
Some of us just won’t do anything because we are waiting for God. Waiting for God is not an excuse to escape our responsibilities. Every servant must be sensitive to the leading of God’s Spirit. There is time for everything and I learned early in my faith that obedience is perishable. There are some things that have to be done as soon as the instruction is given. For such, we don’t have the luxury to decide when we do it – just go and do it, simple. Some instructions come with how to get it done – follow instructions, don’t do it how you think is best because our knowledge and understanding is so limited and very limiting.
There are those we will have to figure out when is the best time to do it, and the best approach – that’s why God gave us mind and means, so we can learn to exercise them and practice. Sometimes, He gives us all the details, some others, He gives just enough to get us going, the rest comes as we follow. Some of us are stuck not because God is not speaking. We are stuck where we are because we haven’t responded to the last instruction and God does not waste His Words. If you haven’t taken step one yet, you are not ready for step two and He won’t jump the process. God is very patient. He will wait for us and He’s so good at it.
I recently learned about a situation I have been waiting on God for like forever only to realize that God has been waiting for me instead. How shocking is that? How many times do we claim we are waiting for God for the next steps whereas God is actually the one waiting for us to get up where we are fallen, to step out of where we are hiding, to trust that He means well, take the first step of obedience and follow Him?
Every once in a while, pause and ponder your journey: am I really following God or do I think I am following? Am I following my fancies, my preferences, my desires and my ways? If we are true followers of Christ, God will never leave us alone. And if ever we feel alone, if ever we don’t sense His presence, we don’t hear what He is saying, we don’t know what to do, that is the time to be still and look back, have we obeyed the last instruction or is God waiting on our obedience to the last directive before He issues the next?
