I looked up the mountains
I gawked down the valleys
I glared at the plains
I scoured corners and alleys
Where could God’s will be hiding?
I’ve been asked many times, “How do you know God’s will in this area or that?” It is not only young believers who are struggling with this question, older Christians equally wonder about this. How can a child of God know what God would have them do in time enough to make the best decision before they have walked into something they shouldn’t be involved in? I think this is one of the commonest questions that plague us all irrespective of our age and status in the faith.
Renowned authors have written countless books on this and similar subjects. I read not a few as a young believer. There are probably tons of audio and visual resources out there meant to answer that question but truth remains that the majority still walk away after all is spent, still scratching their heads and wondering, “What next? How do I know for sure? How can I confidently tell that this way or that, is God’s will for me?” I wish I could refer you to an answer that hits that question right on the head but unfortunately, I found none if any such thing exists.
The simplest answer is that there are no automated formulas for downloading God’s will for any of us. Still I will share with you in the following weeks, how I have learned to find and live God’s will not just every once in a while but on a day-to-day moment-by-moment basis. Is that possible someone would wonder? Yes, I have. I still do. And though it might seem rare in our days and times, I’m most likely not the only one.
Truth is: you cannot know God’s will if you don’t care about God and His ways. Yes, you are a believer. And yes, you love God. Still your lifestyle speaks louder than your confessions, that you are not after the things that God is after – that is a huge stumbling block in the path of finding and living God’s will. No you don’t have to be perfect but you have to care about this God and about His ways if you truly want to know and live His will. And if you do care, then you must be intentional about knowing God and His ways in order to know His will for you.
To be continued.
Glory!
