I see the wind, rising, stirring
Inciting an awakening
I hear the wind, breathing, steering
Compelling an undertaking
I fear the wind approaching, unswerving
Coming my way
I sense the wind of change reaching, inviting
Calling my name
There is no escaping this calling
So bow I must and in surrender
Let the stirring take the steering
Towards a greater goal than “I”.
There are times life is blissfully quiet and everything appears to fall in line. We settle in and wish to cement that season as the permanent weather of our lifetime. Then there are seasons when the wind is out, blowing everything about. Our world may seem to be falling apart with nothing left standing. We may be left groping while hoping to find a firm ground for our faltering feet. Our faith could be mocked by defying circumstances that tend to deify the transients and trivialize the eternal. Yet, if we listen with ears of grace, we hear beyond the brags and swags of contrary winds. We learn that every sound uttered by winds that appear to shake our world, carries not only the promise of ultimate peace and tranquility, but also of a higher life than we had before the wind arrived. We will be drowned if our focus remains on us or on the waves. With eyes on Jesus, we discover that the stirring of the wind is steering us from where we are to where we ought to be. We must surrender to Him who rules the wind and the world, and in peace posses our souls.
When the wind blows in in ways you don’t understand or can’t relate, “Be still, and know that I am God; I will be exalted among the nations, I will be exalted in the earth!” Psalm 46: 10. Dear Lord, when the wind rises within and around me, help me to be still and know that You are with me in the wind, and that You are far above the wind, working all things together for my good, amen.
