Some won’t think because they won’t pause
In sneaks a fall and down they go, shaking
Hands with grounds they stamped, compelled
To do what they won’t. Left no choice or chance
To run along, forced to stop, others set and stew.
When we won’t surrender to the inevitable, fall
Arises, affording opportunities we reject
Forcing down our throats, lessons despised;
Scorned on our feet, now edible on our knees
Ridiculed at heights, now esteemed in the deep.
Fall is a force we know not, see not, hear not
Springing out of the blues to afford us the break
We need to chew slowly, regurgitate one thought
A million times, so we can look and see and think
And respond differently. Fall defies our plans;
Makes us chill, review what was missed
And respect what once we cared not about.
Food For Thought: Left to ourselves, we are won’t to keep moving, from one thing to the other, from one phase to the other, nonstop. We don’t want to be left behind so we conclude that we can’t afford to take a break. We pride ourselves that we are unstoppable irrespective of the benefits and damages of our failure to pause on the highway of life. We burn up our assets and reserves, we miss opportunities for refreshment and realignment, all of which may be critical to some aspects of our progress. We err because we don’t know better and we don’t even know what and why we are missing. Life lets us get by for a while until a time comes when it compels us to stop by tripping us to the ground – the only way we can stop long enough to listen, to learn, to be renewed and be realigned for what lies ahead. Some of us end up weak and wanting, rejected and ejected by systems we poured our all into. Others are left sick with no choice but to temporarily or permanently retire. Then the world we thought couldn’t live without us spins on without our inputs and we are the ones left at the very place we feared and fought so hard to escape. But for falls, some would be resting in untimely graves.
Scripture: “For as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are My ways higher than your ways, and My thoughts than your thoughts. Isaiah 55: 9.
Prayer: Dear Lord, help me to seek Your will in everything I do, in every way I can, and to willingly accept when it comes to me knowing I may never fully understand everything while on this side of heaven, amen.
