Every fall is not of weakness or meanness;
Birthed by necessity, some cut us off harm’s way
Like volunteers, they knock us down to get us out,
Move us into where we won’t elect; escape routes,
Scorned because we think we know better.
Fall emerges in the path of our plans, unwanted
Yet imminent. Undeterred, it strikes and drags us
Caring more than we do, sparing from doom
That awaits the ignorant, the hasty, and the fearful.
When we won’t spare the needful a moment
Fall comes, not looking good, not sounding nice
Demanding surrender we won’t willingly offer.
Fall is often not sign of error or fault to be fixed
It may just be time for a break you refuse to take.
Food For Thought: Traveling one time, I was in such a haste to get to my destination that I was unaware that my hurriedness had attracted the attention of fraudsters hanging around. They made me a quick transportation offer and I jumped in. I noticed something very strange but I was in too much of a hurry to worry so I boarded. But just before the vehicle departed, I surrendered to this irrepressible discomfort springing within, by which I knew God was compelling me to do something. I asked the driver to stop, got off the car and that ticked off the plotters. The reaction of the same folks who claimed they were in as much hurry as I was, stalled me but at that point, I knew I was safer where I was than taking one step away under that arrangement. It was after they angrily dispersed that it dawned: by my haste, I would have become a victim who may never have lived to tell the story. Even those around who observed what was going on couldn’t intervene because I was in such a rush to get going as fast as possible. I didn’t get where I was headed when I would have wanted to but that day, life taught me that it truly is “Better late than late.” Some don’t live to learn and some may have learned on beds of regret. Sometimes when God or life compels us to pause or stop, it could be that we are being saved from something that we cannot save ourselves from.
Scripture: The eyes of your understanding being enlightened; that you may know what is the hope of His calling, what are the riches of the glory of His inheritance in the saints. Ephesians 1: 18.
Prayer: Dear Lord, may I learn, to see what You see, and speak what You say, and live how You would want me to, today and always, amen.
