Falls may be excused when you must work
At night, but who trips in glaring light?
We do; distracted, swept off our feet
By euphoria of the moment, we forget
The wagon of life must be driven
With eternity in view. Spontaneity is cool
But wisdom profits. Spur of the moment
Can stir but not sustain eternal goals.
Don’t for twinkling stars everywhere
Lose sight of beaming moon in a corner.
Everything comes and goes, life when spent
Leaves no balance on earth: life well spent
Leaves few regret. Live well, live full
Let not the ephemeral rob the eternal
Just as cloudy goals attract fall
Regret follows a live without vision.
Food for Thought: There are so many things that need to be done; so many that has to be specifically done by us and nobody else, and so many others that we have to oversee. Add those to the time that appears not only limited but speeding by, we feel hurried and harried. If goals are not properly set, we are bound to forget essential ones, miss critical paths, and be led astray by pressures we possibly underestimated or overrated. So many things are important but some are more important than others while some may be critical. Many things can be done anytime but there are some things that have to be done right now. We can delay a couple of things but there are those that must be attended immediately to avert detrimental repercussions. Everything carries consequences but some are manageable while others are fatal. It is difficult to figure all that out in the heat of the moment. There is need to set time aside, if not every day, then every once in a while, as often as we can, to identify all that begs our attention, to prioritize them so we can divvy our energy accordingly. Yes, things might not all work as planned but we would be giving each day our best shot. Nothing preserves peace like knowing you did the best you could. In similar manner, nothing breeds regrets like knowing that, “I could have done this, I could have done better, if only . . . .” It is a given that there are some circumstances we may not be able to help or change. Yet, some mistakes are preventable, some regrets are avertable: it’s up to you.
Scripture: But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you. Matthew 6:33.
Prayer: Dear Lord, whatever I do, let my goal remain, to please You in all I do, amen.
