That day in Gethsemane
The enemy had a deal like no other –
To choose whomsoever he pleased.
That day when Jesus asked
“Whom do you seek?”
He had an open check, uncontested.
That day, when he elected
To go for the Cornerstone
The little blocks escaped.
Yes, that day when the enemy
Voted the death of the Shepherd
He lost his right to the flock.
When Jesus hung on that cross dying
Declaring, “It is finished!”
He meant every word.
When the enemy knocks on your door
Demanding, heed not. Remind him
That on that day when he was made a deal
Like no other, when he took that open check
And penned in Christ as his ransom
He lost every right to you and all that is yours.

Food For Thought: Who has ever been given a blank check to withdraw whatever they wanted? O yeah, signed check for that matter. If you got one, what would you ask for? I will want to know what the balance in the account is before I pen down a figure. Maybe consider the situation of the one who issued the check so as not to leave him impoverished. If that check is from the One who owns it all and never runs out, hmmm I would need some time before I put down a figure. Definitely it will be a ‘once-in-a-lifetime’ hit on that account. Well that was the deal the devil had that day Jesus asked, “Whom do you seek?” Of course he hated both Teacher and disciples but why waste time on the flock when you can strike the Shepherd, then sit back and watch the sheep scatter without lifting a finger? That is exactly the game he played that day. He went for the head: He asked for Christ. By penning down Christ on that open check, he lost his right to every one of us: every single one! He could have had us all and he thought he did which was why he went for the One he knew he didn’t have. He missed the connection between the Head and the body and lost the rest of us. The enemy did not recognize the divine exchange at work that fateful day and what would have been his biggest deal turned out his worst nightmare. He lunged for the Head and lost the body of Christ. If ever he knocks on your door, with all the boldness you can muster, tell him to get lost: 2000 years ago, he lost his right to you!

Scripture: For God did not send His Son into the world to condemn the world, but that the world through Him might be saved. John 3: 17.

Prayer: Dear Lord, may I stand confident in the work You finished on the cross of Calvary for my sake: may I lose no more grounds to the already defeated foe, amen.
