When distraction lures away from His path
Or in
search of fun we wander into danger:
Feel alone, abandoned, confused and blame God
For not stopping us in our self-bent adventures
For not being there to answer when we called
For failing to perform as expected and beyond
For not wiping our tears and runny nose
For failing to take our hands and say, “It’s ok,”
Even though we knowingly left His path
Yet the faithful God is always there;
He never wanders though we wander
He never derails though we blunder
He never leaves though we disappoint
He never fails to catch us no matter how
Far we stray; whenever we hit the ground
Or pick a trap, He is never far – always there
And whenever we turn repenting, returning
He paves a way where there once was none
And leads us safely back on track.

Food For Thought: We make wonderful choices that land in unexpected destinations. If we are sincere, some of them were as a result of following God while others were from doing our thing, our way. We knew what we were doing at the time or so we thought. They weren’t foolish decisions; based on available evidence at the time, we thought through them before we concluded. To us, they were well informed decisions until events proved us wrong. There have been times when the heartbreaking losses I suffered caused me to feel frustrated with the Lord, “How could You let me do such a thing? You know it wasn’t going to work yet You let me pour all I had into it.” Yes, there were times I thought God was on the lead and there were times I knew I was running my show. Irrespective of the circumstances, blaming God for our poor choices or disappointing results is one of the most unprofitable ventures for mankind. I have learned that even when we sense the leading of God in a matter, yet God expects us to be fully engaged; to seek understanding where it is lacking and to own the process; to bear the losses with grace and learn our lessons; to enjoy the breakthroughs with meekness and build on them. Whatever the case may be, I have learned the difference between losses incurred from following God and my own instincts. In my ways, my only takeaway from losses are the lessons I am able to squeeze out of them. In God’s way, every loss works toward a greater gain.

Scripture: Behold, I will do a new thing, now it shall spring forth; shall you not know it? I will even make a road in the wilderness and rivers in the desert. Isiah 43: 19.

Prayer: Dear Lord, let my focus be fixed on You, preserve me from distraction and destruction, amen.
