I held to all I thought mattered;
I clung to life, fixing to make it great
I hung on family and friends I truly needed
I hugged my job that paid the bills
I clutched the money I craved for more
I gripped promotions and positions
I cleaved on all that appeared to matter
Until the storm showed up at my door
And all that once mattered, washed away
And all I had left was naught but God
Then I learned that nothing in life would do
Without God: nothing else matters but God.

Food For Thought: Everyone and everything comes and goes. Time deals its blows on the amazing opportunities that we start out with; our health, our intelligence and confidence, our connections and acquisitions; on everything you can imagine. We start out young and full of life and race through life like there is no end. Time plays subtle games but because we don’t see them, we assume all is cool until something happens and things begin to unravel. Loss happens to the good and the bad; loss of life and loved ones, loss of jobs, loss of homes and properties, loss of savings and investments, loss of the great, down to the least. On this planet, anything can happen. We can gain more than we aspired and we can lose more than imagined. How does that leave us? It has marked the end of some and a new beginning for others, depending at which point in life one is hit, on their foundation and anchor. In life, we can lose anyone and anything: it’s just the way it is, a way we can’t change. Yet, no matter the value and impact of the losses, no matter where and when we are hit, there is one Foundation that never gives way, one Anchor that never gives up, One Gain that can never be taken away from us, who aids us through losses, who restores beyond imagination. In turbulent times like this, make God your utmost find and let Him preserve you through gains and losses that life deals on all.

Prayer: Dear Lord, do not let circumstances of life teach me that none else matters but You: may I learn from You and Your Word, until I know and accept and live this knowledge in truth and in deed, amen.
