I received fabrics of righteousness for free
In diverse colors and textures, each like
The other, yet very unique from the other.
My choice is the design of godliness:
With the tape of His Word, I measured
Out peculiar patterns for the top
The batting and the backing in delightful
Hoops and frames. With markers of
His counsel, I traced elegant layers
And with scissors of truth, I cut
Through, each piece set to fit, tacked with
Pins of diligence and thimbles of patience.
Needles of grace, colorful threads of peace
Obeying my deft fingers, running stitches,
Blending beauty and modesty in every piece.
Together as one, I sewed them all;
I sewed them straight, I sewed them tight.
On its own, each piece was a story
But together, they were a song;
Individual notes exhibiting harmony
Different pieces that make an orchestra
Of wholeness, a union in completion

Then I understood: you and me
Are pieces of fabrics in the hands
Of God, the Master Quilter.

Food For Thought: Way back in College, I learned to sew and it was fun going through the process of measuring and cutting up a whole piece or even pieces of fabrics, into varying shapes that will eventually be sewn into one whole piece that meets the design. Recently, I was recruited by a family member as a quilting assistant :). I watched this loved one trace awesome designs, measuring and cutting colorful fabrics into countless pieces that fill up the space; each piece unique yet cut to fit into the whole. No piece can make a quilt, no piece can stand on its own. Every piece needs the other, each piece in its rightful place. It takes a lot of time and care and work but every piece is important: the quilt is not complete if one piece is missing. Both experiences taught me that you and me, like those colorful and unique pieces of fabrics, are complemented by the lives of others that God brings our way and together, we find completion that would not be possible in our aloneness. Individually, we are beautiful but together in the hands of the Master Quilter, we are so much more and are enabled to accomplish more than we can on our own.

Scripture: But now, O Lord, You are our Father; we are the clay, and You our potter; and all we are the work of Your hand. Isaiah 64: 8.

Prayer: Dear Lord, as You cut and join and set me back together, help me to relax and trust in Your expert fingers, amen.
