When I chase all I want in life
I’m drawn and torn a thousand ways
Confusion baffles determination
Capriciousness frustrates diligence. Why?
My wants are mountains and myriad
Just like my ever changing thoughts
But when I choose to chase instead
The unchanging Changer of all
My life finds in Him, an anchor
My hope in Him a hanger;
My feet find firmness
My soul’s sure security
And my heart a place of safety
Because He is my peace.

Food For Thought: There are so many things we would want to accomplish, so much more than we are capable of. Our inabilities don’t displace our desires: instead hope feeds our dreams, that someday, something will happen for us to make them reality. Where we eventually end up depends on where that hope is hinged and who the driver is. When ambition is the foundation, we tend to do whatever we think is necessary to get us where we are headed irrespective of impacts and consequences. Oftentimes, we do accomplish a lot, to our credit but if truth must be faced, so much is sacrificed in the way we chase those dreams, so much more that leaves us wondering at the end of the day, “Was it really worth it?” Some sacrifice families, precious relationships, integrity, even their own health and wellbeing. Some end up with what they sought, with no one or strength left to enjoy it. But there is One who leads in the way of peace, so that whether we have little or much, we live appreciative, appreciating, and able to thoroughly enjoy each phase. We don’t need the whole world to have a great life because many who have it all still feel far from accomplished and happy. We need God’s surpassing peace to preserve us wherever we are, guide us through whatever we have to bear, and bring us into the place of enduring fulfilment.

Scripture: For He Himself is our peace, who has made both one, and has broken down the middle wall of separation.

Prayer: Dear Lord, may the peace of Your presence preserve me from the wanting and striving of life, amen.
