On my own, I can do some good
And lots of harm – ‘tis human being
Depreciating with time but when God finds
A home in the willingness of my heart
My hand in His, following in His steps
I flourish, bearing lasting fruits ‘cos
My trust at last, in His care does rest
I cease to try to be a “do-gooder”
Ease into something beyond me;
Out of the overwhelming presence
Of His goodness within flows
Good unforced, untainted, appealing.
Walking in His steps, appreciating,
Enveloped in His favor, spreading
The irresistibly glorious fragrance
Of eternal God in mortal man.
Food For Thought: From the beginning of time until date, there has been, there are, and there will continue to be all kinds of leaders. Some are alive today, savoring the benefits of their influence on those who believe in them and their works. Some lived and died with little acknowledgment and followership. The influence of some was not recognized until after their demise. There are those who were appreciated in life, and death rather than quell, has magnified the areas of their influence. One common undertone among the most influential is that they lived for a cause greater than themselves and their wants. They lived not for the present needs and pressures. Their lives stood for something way beyond them and the times they lived in; their words spoke into the future of generations, the relevance of their work remains untarnished by changing times. Any wonder their influence is sustained long after they have gone? Those who live for now are quickly forgotten. Those who daily choose to follow in the steps of the eternal God, like Him, leave unforgettable footmarks on bedrocks of times that no change can sweep away. Our ways are perishable, His endure. In His steps, we leave eternal footprints behind.
Scripture: Come to Me, all you who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Matthew 11: 28.
Prayer: Dear Lord, lead me in the paths of peace, to the rest that you have prepared for me, amen.
