In our quest to quench our lust for life
We are exploited by greed and ignorance
Lured by impatience, corrupted by arrogance.
Mercy recruits goodness, like guards, standing
Between us and misguided hopes; maybe hidden
From craving eyes, appearing as norm or nix
In the line of blurred visions and lost focus
Yet, recognized or not, appreciated or not
As faithful guards they walk with us, as close as
We allow, close enough to be there when we call
To lift when we fall, to guide our steps from where
We strayed Back in His path, where we ought to be.
Every day we sleep and wake, their presence
Unacknowledged yet remain: patient guards
Whose nudging we often tag instincts
Whose coverage we sometimes label luck
Yet they guard, they guide, they help us
Discern and walk in His ways.
Food For Thought: We all have the desire to do good but how much of the desired good we actually execute can be a discouraging reminder of our feeble nature. Wanting one thing and doing another leaves us feeling both hopeless and helpless. But thank God for Christ who came to show us that in spite of our inborn weaknesses, there is a way to live well: there is a way to live right: God’s way. Our ways may start out good, matching our noble intentions but the corruption in nature eventually lures us away, toward ultimate destruction, but for divine intervention. Christ came to show us that a crooked world is not enough reason to live a crooked life. That though the world we live in is continuously going down, we don’t have to go down with it. We don’t have to go along in the name of hopelessness and helplessness: Christ brought us hope and help. In a seemingly hopeless world, Christ is our hope. His life consistently passed the message that godliness is possible if you choose to go it with God. Yes, the evil within and without may overwhelm the good in us and around us, yet there is a path that drips constant goodness irrespective of pervading corruption. When we find and walk that path with our Guide, His goodness in us overcomes the evil around us and we thrive in righteousness that is as true as it is pure.
Scripture: When a man’s ways please the Lord, He makes even his enemies to be at peace with him. Proverbs 16: 7.
Prayer: Dear Lord, guide me in the way that I should go, and help me to stay when winds of distractions blow, amen.
