You get to that point where you cease striving
To get your due, for them to see and value your worth
You just let them see what they choose to focus on
Say what they want, paint you how they please
Not because you changed. Not because you don’t care.
Not because you’re what they portray or claim.
You get tired of trying to help those who have chosen
To not see, to not hear, and to not change.
You choose to let them live with the logs in their eyes
Who can’t help seeing and pointing at the speck in yours.
You let them ride the horses of their projections.
You enter the place of peace despite their rattling
‘Cos you know something their complex can’t figure out.
That knowledge bequeaths an edge that makes you secure;
Secure in who you are, secure in what you know,
Secure in what you can do, so secure you don’t need
Their creations or projections to be who you are.
Knowing what they think and what they say
Has no power to make you what you’re not.
Knowing whatever they do or fail to do, can’t
Add or subtract from who and what you are.

A lot of us are ladened by what others think and say about us. We try too hard to please everyone that comes our way because we care about their opinions. But we forget that these people have their own agendas and fears, burdens and biases. We forget that oftentimes, while we are striving so hard to please them, they really don’t care about us and our welfare. Any wonder they do and say whatever they please without pausing to ponder how it affects us?

Remember, those you are dying to please may not be impressed by whatever you do, no matter whatever it has cost you. And that’s ok- they are entitled to their opinions. Remember, those you are doing all you can to pass their assessment of your performance have their goals one of which may not be your progress. And that’s okay- they are entitled to their choices. Remember, there are people who derive their sense of importance by demeaning others. And that’s okay – everyone has a right to live as they please. Nobody owes us anything. And remember, those who are going nowhere have no problem pulling every string to stop your progress because they have nothing left to lose. And that also is okay – our success and progress lies not in the hands of men but of God.

Any wonder the Bible says if our way pleases God, He will take care of the rest for us? They may or may not hate you and that’s not the point. The point is that we are bound to be disappointed when we expect from men, what only God can do and be for us. Out of the abundance of whatever they have they give, and nobody can give to us what they have not been able to give to themselves, good or bad. Let’s get our priorities right: And whatever you do, do it heartily, as to the Lord and not to men, knowing that from the Lord you will receive the reward of the inheritance; for you serve the Lord Christ (Colossians 3:23-24; Ephesians 6:7-8.)  Let us hear the conclusion of the whole matter: fear God and keep His commandments, for this is man’s all. For God will bring every work into judgment, including every secret thing, whether good or evil. (Ecclesiastes 12:13-14.)
