Sovereign, sufficient on His own
Yet for me, He gave it all up.
While I was grabbing to get all I can
He was giving it all away for me.
While I was scheming to climb up
He was stepping down, stooping,
Reaching shamelessly for me.
I sold Him for a few coins
He said, “Take me and let him go.”
While I auctioned Him off with a kiss
His love embraced all I am and can be
Disconcerted, I stormed away swearing
“I know Him not,” yet unfazed
He calls me, “Friend, child of My Father.”
While we were yelling, “Crucify Him,” He was praying, “Father forgive them for they don’t know any better.”
Food For Thought: I shudder to wonder what life would have been without the mercies of God! What examples the Father has set for us, of love divine and mercies so tender. God didn’t wait for us to acknowledge our sins and repent before He would decide how and when to forgive and redeem us. Even before the fall, God had devised a means to reach us and save us. From the beginning, He made us for Himself and from generation to generation, God goes out of His way to reach and reclaim us in His love. As Jesus was dying on the cross, He extended forgiveness for the betrayal, the denial and the hatred of those He came to serve and to save. While we were yelling, “Crucify Him,” He was praying, “Father forgive them for they don’t know any better.” From age to age, God’s love continues to wash over us, drenching us with mercies that can never be understood or explained in the ways or words of men. And why does God do this? Because it is His nature to love and to be merciful. Also it is because as He is, He desires that we become. As we have been shown mercy, God wants us out there, spreading mercy on everyone that crosses our path.
Scripture: No longer do I call you servants, for a servant does not know what his master is doing; but I have called you friends, for all things that I heard from My Father I have made known to you. John 15: 15.
Prayer: Dear Lord, help me to live like You, leaving exemplary steps of grace, that those behind me can follow and find You, amen.
