Who sucks water out of rocks
Paves highways in deserts?
Who makes formidable hills melt
And gaping valleys mount?
Who fills the barren with plenty
Switching tears to laughter?
Who exhumes hope from demise
And terminates eternal terror?
Who makes the weak mighty
And the poor wealth creators?
Who molds beauty from ashes
New beginning from terrible ends?
Who calls the invisible to life
Makes an end of lingering sores?
Who toys with impossible
Unmoved by the impressive
And laughs at calamity?
It is only He who was and is and ever
Will be, without beginning or ending
Only He who lives and rules forever
The King whose name is the Almighty;
Most High, Most Holy, Most Worthy!
Food For Thought: There are many powers that influence our lives on a day to day basis and the extent of their control over us varies. Some of them leave us angry, disappointed, frustrated and some others satisfied or just okay. Some of them appear formidable, like we can never rise above their influence or break out of their grip. Some leave us incapable of believing that we can ever escape and too terrified to even attempt. To some, we have become slaves who labor from day to day without the hope of anything worthy at the end of our bondage. I sat staring at one of the influences in my life lately. Discouragement and delusion were stealthily approaching as I gazed at this situation. I sensed them real close but right there and then, I made a choice: yes I have done all the right things I know I should do, and yes none of them seem to have worked, and though I may have missed something or taken something I shouldn’t for granted, I will not lose hope or fall into despair, both of which won’t help the situation anyway. Whichever and whatever be the case, I made a resolve that fateful morning: I repented where I have missed it and turned to the Almighty who turns around age old traditions, creates beauty out of ashes, and laughter out of frustrations: my labor will not be in vain: my labor will count for something worthy, so help me God. That resolve to trust in the Almighty did not suddenly change that situation but it empowered me to face the day with courage, go to bed in peace, look forward to another day in hope and give it my best; unrelenting, not doubting, fully assured that my labor is not for nothing. The power of the Almighty, to whom I have trusted it all, will make it count for something worthy. Maybe not today but surely someday. When those overpowering and overwhelming influences come daring, don’t try to slug it out with them: turn it all over to the Almighty before whom every other power and influence bows.
Scripture: Blessed be the Lord God, the God of Israel, who only does wondrous things! Psalm 72: 18.
Prayer: Dear Lord, may I never lose sight of what privilege it is, to know and call the Almighty, my Father, my Friend, my God, my Help, amen.
