I didn’t mean to go so far
I didn’t plan to get so lost:
I only wanted some distance
A little privacy, just a little bit
Of that alluring fruit calling my name.
Now here I am, alone in the dark
Lost in the wild, no help in sight.
I thought there were laid out paths
For liberal sheep like me.
I thought all the good Shepherd did
Was walk ahead of everyone
Like Lord, which I could live without.
Now I’m ahead, none for me to lead
I have the space I desperately sought
But I know not which way to go.
I have lavish freedom in my hands
But I can’t find what to do with it.
What can the lost do with liberty?
Food For Thought: Growing up, whenever we heard, “Lost and found,” the chorus that followed was, “Careless owner!” When you don’t handle your possession with care, you are bound to lose it. While some losses can be recovered, others are not. If you cherish what is yours, you persevere to preserve it because you don’t want to lose it. If the value is considered to be insignificant or replaceable, then fine, it can lie around and get lost in the process and you’ll get a replacement, possibly a better one. When that asset is deemed irreplaceable, the value placed on it is reflected in the handling. As a people, we belong to God. As sheep, He is our Shepherd. Whereas He has been proven faithful in His role, we have been proven to err, to stray and to get lost. Sometimes in ignorance and some others in sheer disobedience, especially in these times that it is hype to be free of every restraint. Freedom without purpose is bondage. Slaves have known masters who may be kind or mean but freedom without discipline is injurious to the person and those around. Anyone living without a purpose is lost irrespective of his achievements. That is why acquisitions and accomplishments don’t satisfy. Our fulfilment is tied to our life’s purpose. We are saved when we find it, fulfilled when we live it.
Scripture: Now godliness with contentment is great gain. 1Timothy 6: 6.
Prayer: Dear Lord, as the days go by, so my wants change and multiply: may I trust that You will meet all my needs according to Your glorious riches in Christ, amen.
