He won me in love and I was over the moon
He took me home and it was all joy and smiles
“At last I made it, now it’s time to celebrate.”
And celebrate we did until that day arrived
All was fun until the time He approached.
Instead of delicacies, He brought a shear
“What’s that?” I queried, alarmed! “My Word,
The rod; your mold, your guide,” He announced
Through smile that failed to calm panting heart.
“What for?” I wondered, alarmed, unconvinced
Can’t let His smile sweep me into grave distress
“For your good beloved,” He was calm but my heart
Threatened departure if I didn’t jump out and run off
I’ve been out there before, promised myself never again
I won’t let fear recapture me. I have to trust someone
Sometime, and who better to start with than Him?
I’ll take a risk on Him who’s risked so much more for me.
But can I really trust God to do as He pleases with me?
Food For Thought: This is one question some of us may have to wrestle with for as long as we live: can I really trust God to have His way and do whatever He pleases with me, no matter where and how that leads or leaves me? We all sing, “God is good all the time,” but how many of us believe and live in light of that? We talk about His mercies and testify of His faithfulness. Even the Bible proclaims what a mighty awesome God He is. Truly, we have seen God at work within and around us even if no one else agrees. We know deep inside, the places He has met with us on issues nobody knows and may never know about. Yet, in those deeply private places, we often struggle with turning over total control of our lives to God. We live in a very distrustful world and whether we accept it or not, that rubs off on our relationships including the one we have with God though it shouldn’t. We have been disappointed many times by what we believed and confessed and failed to experience, so many times that in our uncertainties of where to dump the blame, we have piled them on God and that has further created a rift in a trust that should be secure. Yet in such times and in those places, may we remind ourselves again and again, “God is not a man, neither is He the son of man.” Men will fail but God never fails – that should encourage our faith, our trust, and our hope in those secret places where doubts abound.
Scripture: He has made everything beautiful in its time. Also He has put eternity in their hearts, except that no one can find out the work that God does from beginning to end. Ecclesiastes 3: 11.
Prayer: Dear Lord, it is shocking that the Person I should trust most turns out the one I doubt the most: heal my heart and help my faith to rest in You, amen.
