Prayer is a custom mold God designed for each of His children. The more we spend time in there with Him, the more we are transformed to be, live, and speak like Him with results that show as we are relating with others. It is finding pleasure in His presence with or without others, words, and sounds. It is the act of learning to chill and be with God. Prayer is where we can offload the disappointing weights that wear us out, so we can just be with God and learn from Him in order to be like Him.
In prayer, we learn to let go and let God take the lead while we follow in His steps; to intercede and walk as He would. It is in prayer we learn to allow God to take charge of our desires, reorder and even change our expectations, making His priorities ours so we can pursue each as He pleases. It is where our surrender meets God’s desires. Where our feet are trained to recognize and walk in tune with His pace. Where our hearts are synced with the beating of His heart.
Prayer is the moment-by-moment yielding and a continual offering of our lives to God Almighty. It is where God meets us as we are, then changes and uses us as He pleases. It is where God meets our seeking with His longing, and we learn oneness leaning into His everlasting arms. Prayer is where we join hand in hand with God, representing heaven and earth, partnering for “Thy Kingdom come.” A life of prayer is a yielded life of, “Thy will be done O God!” Christ is formed in us as we pray His will upon our lives. Nothing proves more effective for overcoming our fears of disappointment and rejection than the transformative and transcendent power of prayer.
It is not just about the words we utter. Prayer is also the life we live day by day. It is not telling God what to do. It is telling Him what we know, listening for what He wants us to know and how He wants us to walk. Many people think prayer is us telling God what we want and when and how we want it. No. It is God teaching us what He wants so we can work with Him to bring it to pass. That makes it okay when God does not go the way we like. In prayer, we learn to stick with Him to the end even if we do not understand the ‘what’ ‘how’ and ‘why’ of His workings. He is our Father and we are His children. Ours is to pray. He chooses how to answer. He leads, we follow, trusting His guidance.
