I sense a presence, I sense the peace
And something within bears witness:
It is the presence of my Prince.
I still don’t see Him, still can’t feel Him
Still can’t touch Him, still can’t taste Him
But I know, though lacking evidence
It is the presence of the One whom I love;
Who loved me first, who taught me love
Who gave me life, who brought me here
Whom I thought abandoned me, the One who
Though all my senses couldn’t detect, who
Once I fought and blamed for my losses, yet
To whom in stillness, I just surrendered. I know
It is Him, somewhere near, somewhere here
Though I see Him not and though I can’t tell
When I first sensed this presence, yet I know that
I know that this can only be the presence of God.
Food For Thought: Given our nature, we are prone to judge another as we are. Because we forget, we often feel forgotten. Because we fail, we often feel failed. Because we err, we always watch out for errors. Because we realize that there are some things we don’t know and can’t do, we often feel the same about others. And sometimes, God falls in the category of those we attribute forgetfulness, failure, errors, ignorance and inability to – that is the nature that makes sense to us. To say someone will love even when despised, help although ignored, giving even when not asked, delivering from what is deserving, faithful through thick and thin; unerring, unfailing, is probably too much for our human minds. So when failure knocks, we wonder if God has sent it. When disappointment strikes, we suspect He is paying us back. Defeated, we conclude that God may have missed something. Some take it well, some take it terribly and some others try to fashion reasonable excuses in God’s defense. Yet, irrespective of our ideas, assumptions and conclusions, God is not a man like you and me, neither is He a son of man like you and me. He doesn’t disappear and appear at will or in line with our behavior and performances. God is ever present; our inability to feel Him, our ignorance of His ways, our doubts about His character, and our fears concerning His ability will not and cannot change the unchangeable nature of our infallible Redeemer.
Scripture: But there is a spirit in man, and the breath of the Almighty gives him understanding. Job 32: 8.
Prayer: Dear Lord, my senses work sometimes and fail some others: they are temporal, You are eternal: may I learn to walk with You by faith and not by my senses for those can’t place or please You, amen.
