I don’t ever want to miss You O God!
I don’t ever want to miss Your way.
I said I will be careful but in caution
I feared, I tripped, and I failed.
I said I will be smart but in a hurry
I assumed, I missed, I strayed.
I’ve been lost and found too many times
I want to know to do and to live right
To be mindful of You and Your ways.
“Hide My Word in your heart
Keep your eyes on My face
Come with Me, one step per time
Trust in Me, all the way
And though you miss once in a while
You’ll make it home with Me at last.”
Food For Thought: For those of us who were born or self-made perfectionists, you know how painful it feels to miss the mark. The wheels of untold misery that churns within at realizing that you messed up and disappointed yourself and others can be tortuous. But hey, mistakes go with our nature! So long as we are humans, we are bound to err. The frequency will vary with individuals but error is a given for all. When we focus on the error, life turns a regret-laden undertaking instead of an adventure in learning and growing. Diverted by disappointment and dwelling on regrets, we miss the goal because of an error that could have been turned into a springboard. And the fact that we grill ourselves over an error doesn’t guarantee that we have learned or that it will not be repeated. Learning comes with humility. Humility makes our hearts teachable. It confirms that we recognize, not deny our human nature. It helps us own our errors, grieve where necessary without turning life into a mourning, take steps toward change to get out of the circle, work that change successfully, appreciate our ability to see it through, and enjoy the fruits of our efforts. That you are disappointed about something doesn’t mean that you won’t do it again. Being human and in touch with grace enables us to learn from errors and to continue moving, with the goal of making it home anyway.
Scripture: Looking unto Jesus, the author and finisher of our faith, who for the joy that was set before Him endured the cross, despising the shame, and has sat down at the right hand of the throne of God. Hebrews 12: 2.
Prayer: Dear Lord, you saved me from my enemies not because of enemies: you saved me from sin not because of sin: you save me for You, so that without fear, I can live for You: help me to live fearlessly for You, amen.
