Every nerve in me screamed, “Run!
As fast as your legs can carry!
You don’t have what it takes to stand
You don’t have what it takes to fight:
The beast you roused is mad, ready
To kill: run fast, run far, run hard
Get away while yet you can!”
My eyes confirmed: the beast I dared
Enraged, subtly gauging my strength
Taking position while I am seeking;
Faith for my failing nerves
Strength for my fainting heart
“You are dead if you fight
You are dead if you don’t.”
Food For Thought: Circumstances are always throwing words at us and often, they don’t say pleasant things. God’s Word is always there for us too, speaking truth, speaking well. We choose what to listen to. We choose which to reject, accept and dwell on. We usually struggle with truth and lies get to us faster though they do no good. Why is it easier to believe circumstances that speak of our inabilities and failures; circumstances that mock our infirmities and sell us short? Why do we struggle to believe God’s report that speaks better things concerning us; things that can transform our lives and situations from what it is to what it should be? And the lies are growing louder and more rampart while it appears God’s Word is becoming rarer. When we give heed to the enemy out there, all we hear are things that belittle and defeat what we were designed and empowered to conquer. When we take in the lies that circumstances spout in the name of reality, we fear to dare and run from adventures that were dispatched to allow us demonstrate to changeable realities, the infallible power of the God we serve, and His indisputable glory that rests in us. When we heed His Word, however it reaches us, we learn what we don’t know, we gain what we need: knowledge builds faith, faith fosters courage, and courage persistence, which enables us to stand our ground, to fight for truth, to fight with truth, and to not give up until victory becomes our reality.
Scripture: For they all were trying to make us afraid, saying, “Their hands will be weakened in the work, and it will not be done.” Now therefore, O God, strengthen my hands. Nehemiah 6: 9.
Prayer: Dear Lord, when everything around me is screaming for attention, please guard my heart with Your Word and guide my feet in Your will, amen.
