On September 3, I shared the first in the series of the story of my surrender to God calling me to do something new and different and my initial resistance. Why do we resist God and His call even when we know that He has our best interest at heart? Because He calls us out of our comfort zone. We are okay to do what we can and jump into what we enjoy. However, if that calling is in the direction we don’t like or care about, we stall and try to negotiate our way out.
My biggest lesson walking this path with God is that when God calls us out of our comfort zone, He is not looking to embarrass us. He is not seeking to expose something we don’t know so the world can have a good laugh at our ignorance. Instead, our good Father has recognized an essential area we don’t but need to know. He has identified something we are not knowledgeable of its significance and He wants to teach us that. He has noticed something we don’t care about which is essential for what He needs to accomplish through us and wants to not only make us aware of it, but also to help us to care enough to learn what we should.
Whenever God is calling us to new realms, He wants to enlarge our capacity and our territory. He wants to add to what we have, to improve and increase us on other sides than the ones we are used to. When God is calling us into new zones, He wants to grow us in areas we are short on. He is looking out for our advancement because every growth we experience in our walk with Him will reflect in our service to those to whom we are called. Our obedience to Him in new areas leaves us better that who we were when we began, and takes us farther from where we started.
Our disobedience does not take anything away from God. We are the ones that are limited by our resistance and refusal to dare new grounds with God. We are the ones stuck in the old and in the past when there is so much ahead. It is not like He is calling to send us out on our own. We don’t realize that before He calls our attention, He has already gone ahead and made the way for us to walk through. That He is walking every step with us. And He will keep working after we are done with our part, to perfect what He already started. It is an honor to be called by God. It is a privilege to be used by God. May we always be in readiness to obey even in areas that appear grey, knowing that as we trust and obey God, He will use us to accomplish His purpose and glory, and we will be the better for our surrender. Amen.
