Sitting here, staring at this unglamorous cross
Is taking me nowhere good, nowhere out
Of this dreary hole I must escape. Even Christ
Had company, and e
xtra hands with His cross
But here I am alone; no one to cheer, no one to care
The weight of this grubby cross cutting me to bits.
Day after day I have prayed, now faith is fainting
At my feet, too weary to stand, too beat to hope
I have done all I know but hope tarries still
Helplessness has claimed my reality.
Where do I turn when heaven is cold and still?
How do you fight death when life won’t have you;
Enemies in hot pursuit, uncertainties raging ahead
And all around are perils of this wilderness
That threatens permanence: what do you do?

Food For Thought: I hope you enjoyed that lamentation 🙂 That is the song of someone who has done all they know to do and are too spent to do anymore, especially when doing more promises no improvement to deteriorating conditions that ache for change. What do you do when your head and your hands are full and life is still downloading on you? I have learned to turn to God: the faithful burden bearer who relieves the heavy laden. We have to learn to appreciate those times because they are essential parts that contribute to who we eventually turn out. Look back and you will realize: we could not have become what we are today if not for those tough times. We could not have made it to where we are today if not for the Foundation that kept us rooted when others were toppled; the Anchor that kept us tied when others were swept away. Looking back, find courage to face the future knowing that this Foundation is firm, this Anchor is sure; immovable, unchangeable, infallible; there in us, there with us, there for us; not only now, not only today, not only tomorrow: His power is mighty, unstoppable, and eternal. Be it through His name, His Word, His Presence, His will, He is everywhere we go, helping through thick and thin, whether we rise or fall, float or sail, crawl or fly. It doesn’t matter what, when, where and how: He is always equal to the task, always on time, always at our side: our ever present help in times of need.

Scripture: Looking unto Jesus, the author and finisher of our faith, who for the joy that was set before Him endured the cross, despising the shame, and has sat down at the right hand of the throne of God. Hebrews 12: 2.

Prayer: Dear Lord, in those times when I don’t know what to do, who to turn to, or where to go, keep my eyes on You and my heart on Your Word, amen.
