Since the root of disappointment
Rests with expectations
The cure for disappointment
Must also start with expectations.

Does anyone desire to see an end to disappointments? My hand went up before yours! What won’t I give to not ever again be disappointed in every area of my life? That- is a dream that will never come true. Because I am not perfect, I will make disappointing mistakes. People are not perfect, they will add to the disappointments. The world we live in goes farther from perfection every day making it equally impossible. And God knew this when He sent His Son two thousand years ago. Jesus knew that too and came prepared to respond appropriately to disappointments. It was written;

But Jesus would not entrust himself to them, for he knew all people. He did not need any testimony about mankind, for he knew what was in each person. John 2:24-25.

Jesus understood how human minds work and never allowed Himself to be swept away by any season be it of admiration or of condemnation. He knew better and He stands as the perfect example for us. Knowing the unpredictability and undependability of human nature, still He did not live distrustful or He would not have had friends at all. Do you realize that Jesus had many friends and different circles of friendship?

He had those who were very close with whom He shared His most intimate purpose, love and fears. He had those He just visited for a purpose and that was it. He had those He met in fellowships with regularly in addition to the twelve, and those He just healed and sent away. Among the twelve, He had three that were closer and one that was closest. Among families He visited, there was those known as His good friends, families like that of Mary, Martha, and Lazarus. Jesus had good friends and bad friends and He treated none with disrespect irrespective of their conditions, attitudes, and responses.

He did not gather everyone that came His way. He nurtured no unrealistic expectations that those He healed and helped will be there for Him or He would not have made it to the cross. How can they be there for Him when many did not even as much as come back after their healing to say, “Thank You!” Disappointment would have knocked Him out before any of us realized who He was and what He came for. Jesus understood mankind and if we must follow in His steps as Christians, we must related with mankind as He did.
