I was born royalty, beloved of my Father
The King who rules from coast to coast.
I was the apple of the eye of a Father
Who would give anything, do anything
And everything He gave, everything He did
To meet my needs and fill my cup.
In wisdom He counseled, “Meddle not
And you’ll live paradise all of your days.”
I lived heaven on earth until the day
Boredom called with curiosity in tow.
Trailing both I grew restless, went meddling
Crossed the line, broke the hedge and lost:
My Father, my joy, His glory, myself.
Food For Thought: If only we would mind our business, our troubles will be less. Why? All the unnecessary dramas we get sucked into as a result of meddling will be cut off: that’s a bunch. Our issues are a handful. Invading other people’s spaces and interfering in affairs we are not needed in don’t make anybody’s life easier. No, it rather gets complicated. The thing about meddling is that we often don’t realize that we are crossing lines. Whereas some of us do it every once in a while, maybe out of concern for the other, some people’s nose cannot find air if it is not stuck in another’s business. Getting involved because you care is not meddling especially if it is mutually accepted and borders are respected. Some of us would have ended up as disasters but for the timely intervention of people who truly cared and were courageous enough to step out of their ways into ours. Meddling is not only a disregard for others, it speaks very poorly of the meddler. Lack of respect for others is often the reflection of ignorance and unhealthy appetite for what is not your business. Snooping does not only hurt others, it hits us when and where we least expect. So not only for the sake of others, but for our own wellbeing, we need to restrain the urge to pry into the privacies of others.
Scripture: For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God. Romans 3: 23.
Prayer: Dear Lord, may I learn by the help of Your Spirit, to rein in my curiosity, to stay within the limits of grace allotted to me, and therein find contentment, amen.
