I’ve been running since Eden, running from
The wild in the wild, yet every step draws me
Deeper into the very wild I dread the most.
I’ve been running since Eden, running from
My fears and shame but everywhere I go
They cling tighter and weigh heavier.
I’ve been running since Eden, running from
All my struggles but every step multiplies
Miseries I long to escape.
I’ve been running since Eden, seeking another
Place, any place I can call home, but every step
Takes me farther from the home I miss.
I’ve been running since Eden, running from
Haunting death but my race draws only closer
To the grave I dug with shovels of disobedience.
Food For Thought: Eden is the epitome of God’s will. There, Adam and Eve lived in God’s peace, surrounded by supernatural provisions. They didn’t have to bother about shelter and clothing. The peace of Eden left no doubt about the security of mankind. For each day and for all of life, there was no asking for anything because every need was provided and appreciated. Eden was the place of fruitful enjoyment, such impregnable repose. Then they wanted more; Eve reached while Adam watched, and for want of a little more, they lost it all. Look around: are the troubles you are dealing with a result of stretching for more? Contentment saves us many a troubles! And when desire looms, we must exercise responsibility in restraining our longing and reaching within permitted limits. Adam and Eve could reach for more of all that was allowed and feel no guilt but the day they crossed the line and reached for the forbidden, they knew disappointment. The benefit wasn’t as promised but too late, the door had been opened and in strolled shame and pain and suffering and failure and troubles untold. A man who does not know his limits is a landmine waiting to explode. A woman without restraint is trouble both to herself and to those around her. May we know and live and abound within the limits of grace and righteousness.
Scripture: For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord. Romans 6: 23.
Prayer: Dear Lord, history and current experiences confirm Your Word that obedience is better than sacrifice: may I learn from Your Word instead of experience: help me to heed Your guidance and learn thereof, amen.
