I believe in God not just because
He is mighty mystery up there
Spinning planets, juggling humanity
Round the globe for His pleasure.
I believe in God not just because
He is so good, no evil in Him
Because many a time, my distorted sight
Struggles to focus on His goodness.
I believe in God not just because
He is everywhere, every time;
“Almighty-can-do-all” who owns it all
Because my circumstances
Often try to disprove that.
I believe in God just because
He believed in me enough to die for me.
Food For Thought: How did the Father of the prodigal son identify him from such a distance when no one else did? He spotted the young man a long way off. It was not the son who left a while back returning. It was not someone that looked or walked like the son, returning. It was a totally new person denatured by the harsh conditions of tough life he wasn’t used to. Have you met people you once knew and couldn’t recognize them? The wealthy son of a rich man who left home flamboyantly was not the same person returning. Inside and out, a transformation had taken place. If it was the same son, he would not have had the confidence to return to the Father and home he scorned. Guilt and pride and shame would have blocked the way. The rich boy who swaggered out was dead; dead in his errors and sufferings, dead in his disappointment and poverty, dead to the shame he sired. It was a new man returning; a repented son, born again, redeemed from the afflictions that buried the former. It was that new man who knew that home was a better deal even for a son-turned-slave. It was that new man who could dare approach the tender mercies of a Father offended. That new man would not be distracted by guilt and pride and shame: the new man is unstoppable! That was the son that came home. Back to our question, how did his Father recognize him a long way from home? Because the seed of the Father was in him: and for that reason He believed; hoping against hope, that the runaway shall return. In that hope He looked up continually. Buoyed by that hope, the Father looked out, He looked far and one day that started out like any of those days, His faith was rewarded: the lost was found, the dead lived again.
Scripture: But without faith it is impossible to please Him, for he who comes to God must believe that He is, and that He is a rewarder of those who diligently seek Him. Hebrews 11: 6.
Prayer: Dear Lord, when You had no reason to believe in Me, You believed in me enough to die for me: now I have every reason to believe in You, may I never falter in my faith, amen.
