The day Jesus bowed to the curses
That was ours to bear, not one was left out.
The day Jesus accepted the beatings
That was due us, not one stroke was left out.
The day Jesus swallowed the rejections
That we had earned, not one was forgotten.
The day Jesus carried the cross
We deserved, not one sinner’s cross was left out.
The day Jesus took the nails
That paid for our sins, not one sin was missed out.
The day Jesus yielded to death
That was our due, not one soul escaped death.
The day Jesus defeated grave and reclaimed
A higher life, not one soul was left out;
Everyone, everywhere, every sin, for every time
Were settled on that day, on that cross.
Today as Jesus lives and reigns forever more
No power can change what He accomplished
For you and for me on that day, on that cross.
Food For Thought: As Christians, we celebrate Christmas with rich colors and fervor: that God made the choice to taste our humanity is something to celebrate. That tough as His time on earth was, Christ did all things well and left footmarks of possibilities, on paths no man has ever walked, as example to us that if He did, we also can, is worth celebrating. But His coming to earth was not planned as a show. The miracles He performed were not to show humanity that God is capable of such signs and wonders. The birth in a manger wasn’t a sympathy show for the poor. Neither was the flogging nor throwing out traders from the Synagogue a demonstration against the rich. Christ is not a show man and nothing He did, from the beginning to the end of His life on earth was for show. To each, there was a purpose. His coming was not so God could taste manhood, do human stuff, be homeless and suffer. His coming and all the works associated with His time on earth were all targeted toward one thing: so He could die. If He did all of those and missed the death on the cross, our lot would not have shifted a bit. We would have forgotten all the wonders over time, then continued and perished in our sins. He came, He lived, He worked, He suffered, all so He could die. In His death our debt to sin was paid. In His resurrection we are assured that God’s wrath against our sin has been satisfied and eternal life guaranteed for all who believe. Thank God for His birth day and the miracles but that very day that He died should be the climax of our celebrations.
Scripture: For the message of the cross is foolishness to those who are perishing, but to us who are being saved it is the power of God. 1 Corinthians 1: 18.
Prayer: Dear Lord, never let me forget, that the day You took upon the cross that was mine, and died the death due me, that day I was redeemed, that day I became Yours for life, amen.
