As we’re rolling through the first week of the New Year, I’m sure everyone of us desires that God would do new things for us. We long for changes to our routines, a little more here and a lot more there. Apart from those who build their expectations around others, the majority of us are looking to God to do these new things for us.

Nothing is impossible for God to do. He can meet all of our new expectations but how ready are we for the new things we are asking for? God’s word exhorts:

He told them this parable: “No one tears a piece out of a new garment to patch an old one. Otherwise, they will have torn the new garment, and the patch from the new will not match the old. And no one pours new wine into old wineskins. Otherwise, the new wine will burst the skins; the wine will run out and the wineskins will be ruined. No, new wine must be poured into new wineskins. Luke 5: 36-38. (NIV)

Because we have the tendency of doing the same thing and expecting different results, we naturally project that also toward God. He is the Maker of all and He is good and generous, why can’t He give and do new things for us? The summary of the above Scriptures which answers that question is;

“God may not do some new things for the old us simply for our good.”

The operating condition of many of us is so outdated that installation of any new things as we are, will lead to a crash and that is not God’s will for us. Whereas some of our parts need update, other parts require full blown upgrade to get us in a state of readiness, for the new things that God wants to download unto us in this New Year.

God is ready to pour out His blessings but are we ready to receive them? We can pray all we want but until we take the steps to do what we ought, we may not see those expectations come to pass. We are not the only ones with expectations: God also has expectations toward us.

God is hopeful that you will quit delaying, procrastinating and shifting blames, and take the steps to make the changes that are long overdue in your life. God is hopeful for a better relationship, deeper communion, richer communication, and greater dependence on Him and His Word. While you are praying to God for new things this year, God is praying to you, for a new heart, a new walk, a new you: will you do unto God as you want Him to do unto you? Cheering to a New You in the New Year.

Blessings
Glory!
