I met wanderers seeking, searching for God
In piles of distractions. I paused: I once was one
Looking for good in the wrong, until I laid aside
My wandering and wondering, learned to be still
Believing, watching, waiting, not in lethargy
Or pursuits that detest pause, patience and trust.
God is not the father of restless exertions:
He mothers us in quiet truth. When we step away
Drawing nearer, seeking oneness with Him
We see God is everywhere, every time, with us.
When God is secondary, we miss Him everywhere
When God is priority, we see Him everywhere.
When we seek to find, to know, to enthrone Him
Knowledge thrives, rousing insatiable thirst
No other but Him can quench. When we want
All of Him and all of His, we find the Fountain
We learn the Ancient of days who draws us closer
Unveils His heart so we can see and taste and know.
When willingness drives our hunger to the threshold
Of readiness, we find God is Ever-Present
Always was, always is, and always will be; ready,
Willing, waiting to reveal His glory in us.
Food for Thought: We often forget that timing is one of the limitations that define and constrain our humanity, and that God is not subject to it. We judge based on where we are per time, what we know, what we’ve been through, how we feel, among others. These factors have the potential to influence what we see and think, and how we receive and respond to the things that come our way. Circumstances of life can veil our ability to see God and we conclude based on the fact that we can’t sense His Presence, that we are on our own: God is nowhere near. Yet, when we are able to cast off all that clamors for our delicate attention, strive to focus it on the one thing that truly matters, we learn lessons that may appear new to us but are as ancient as time itself. We learn that God is always there, always near, always with us. When the veil is lifted by our quest and singularity of mind in seeking, we are surprised by our discovery but God is not because He has been there all along, willing through our unwillingness, waiting through our wandering, knowing that every step, good or bad, draws every sincerely hungry heart closer home and closer to Him. It doesn’t matter where you are right now, God is right there with you.
Scripture: And you will seek Me and find Me, when you search for Me with all your heart. Jeremiah 29: 13.
Prayer: Dear Lord, when my circumstances hide Your face and numb my perception of Your presence, preserve me in the assurance that You are far beyond thoughts and feeling, yet so close and real to me, in me, with me, amen.
