Looking in the mirror
I seem okay
Until I look at time
Until I look at you
Then it dawns
I’m running behind
I’m falling short
And I feel the pressure
To get in line
To meet up
Yet He made us all differ
In very unique ways
Yet He makes it all beautiful
In His own time.

While chatting with a friend not long ago, it dawned on me that I was falling very short on something. This feeling wasn’t instigated by the chat as one is won’t to conclude. Instead, the chat was an avenue through which an idea the enemy had dropped inside escaped to the outside or something that was sleeping silently in my heart found expression. I wasn’t even thinking it before that chat. When I least expected, my mouth uttered something that must have been planted or lay hidden in my wearying heart.

Once it was out, I didn’t resist, refuse or address it with God’s Word as I usually would. Instead, I pondered the idea a while and agreed totally with it. Not long after, I took over the reins and decided I was going to fix it my way. I was not ignorant of consequences. I chose that I will take in my stride, whatever came with my choices. How successful was I on that venture? Such formulas have never worked for me.

Some of us can make our decisions to go our way and do our things but there are those of us who just cannot, not for want of trying. God has His hands so strong on our lives He will not give in to transient inclinations that will mar us for life. Even when we tell Him to back off, God still must have His way with us. This is not a new revelation for me but why I must try Him again and again beats my imagination. I guess it is the same reason every child dares and pushes limits with parents, to see what they can get away with. We all do the same with God.

We feel denied and deprived when He doesn’t oblige us. We always conclude that we got it, that we will be okay in our way. Yet, every time He disappoints my plan, it is only a matter of time before I understand why and the conclusion of the matter always is a burst of thankfulness and gratitude, “Thank you Lord for not letting me have my way. Thank You for preserving me from the way that seems right but leads only to destruction. Thank You for Your restraint which I didn’t then appreciate. Thank You for making it all beautiful in Your time.”

The times we live in have ways of making us feel like we are falling short, not doing well, and not meeting up. Such feelings inspire and lure to the path of rebellion, starting out subtly and going too far before we realize it. In these times and days of constant pressure, may we stay focused on God who is the Source of all the good we desire in life. He is for us and He is a good Father. He will not deny or deprive us. All it takes is time, and some patience on our part but God makes it up for good. He makes it all beautiful in due time. May we patiently trust, obey and wait for His due time.
