He calls us to life
He calls us to wellness
But sometimes we doubt
Sometimes we err
Sometimes we ail.
He calls us to goodness
He calls us to consistence
But sometimes we fear
Sometimes we miss
Sometimes we fail
But God is not in a hurry.
However we may feel
Wherever we find ourselves
God will wait to save us.
Being humans, we have a tendency to learn a lot, and also to forget a whole lot more. Conditions change, we begin to falter and question what we know. When we don’t know what to do, that is not the time to let go of what we know. In fact, that is the time to turn inward, God-ward, and begin to digest and ruminate over what we know. When we don’t understand, it is what we know about God and His Word that will hold us together and carry us through valleys and shadows, until we get to the place of light, where we know what to do next. Until then, hold tight to what you know and no matter how high or wide the storm blows, don’t let go of what you know. It will make the difference in how you transition from that place of doubt, fear and uncertainty to the place of peaceful assurance and gracious confidence.
Sometimes we will fail the test. Sometimes, we will wander off the path and miss our way. Sometimes, rather than wait, we will hurry along and fall into traps. And sometimes, we will worry, get ensnared by fear and fall off by the wayside. Whatever happens in our case, God is not surprised. He knows before it happens anyways. And He will always be there to pick us up; patient, understanding, forbearing yet expecting us to learn, to grow and progress.
Irrespective of our conditions and dilemmas, God is our ‘Ever Present Help.’ But do we keep falling because God will always pick us up? Every fall hurts and delays you and me, not God. Every failure costs us more than it costs God. Why should we indulge in something that hurts and costs and impedes our progress? Yet, it remains our choice; to learn from where we have been, to grow from what we used to be, to progress into who and where He wants us to be.
When we choose to go our way, God won’t force us back His way. He is patient. He will wait for us because He knows the end of our own path is never good. He knows we will be in need of Him and His deliverance. Like the faithful Father He is, God will wait though we err. He will wait to save us. He will always be there to help, to deliver, to heal and to restore. Much as I love God’s deliverance, I want to live trusting, obedient, healthy because the less we fall in need, the more useful we are in His hands and for His purpose on earth. I want to live fruitful not needful. I think this should be the aspiration of every child of God.
