Wish life’s as easy as it can be funny
But every day births tougher trails
Every day presents choices
To go left or go right
To press forward or turn back.
I can’t change your course
I can’t change the world
But every day I get to choose
Who to believe, which to follow.
Whether we like to face it or not, every day, many are falling off the faith and many others are climbing on board. The world doesn’t notice because they are not popular folks. The only ones we hear are those influential enough to make the news. The rest silently fall into oblivion and we know nothing of their struggles. If any of us is standing, it is not because we are strong on our own to maintain our faith in a God who sometimes seems so far away or unaware of our constantly debilitating plights. It is because the grace of God keeps us from falling apart and rolling off the cliff. The same grace that saves us, keeps us and is able to keep us to the end.
If any of us falls away, it is not because that grace is in short supply. God’s grace will always be more than enough for everyone, for every situation. Still, the choice is ours: to avail ourselves of such grace or take the door that says, “Enough is enough.” Life is not perfect anywhere for anyone but the grass usually appears greener on the side, where we are not. When viewed from a distance, the beauty of roses overshadow their ever present thorns. Yet, they are no roses without those thorns.
God gave us the power and ability to choose- it shouldn’t be taken away. Each choice comes with affixed consequences. Whichever we pick, determines what follows. We can’t choose for others but we are responsible for our choices. Key choice that must be made daily remains: is God worthy of my trust, love and undying commitment? The answer to that question, on a day to day basis, will determine the path we walk and how far we go.
The day we fall away is not the day we realized it or the day the news hit town. Fall begins the day we think God is no longer worthy. When reality mounts sufficient questions and doubts to displace the trust we once nurtured toward God and His Word. When our conviction gives way to the confusion that is drowning all else around. How far we fall depend on how long we walk that path. It is a hard choice to make in a world that desperately tends to discredit God and everything godly. Even for those of us who seemed to have been Christians ‘forever,’ it is a hard choice especially in the face of specific thorns we can’t seem to escape. Yet, it remains a choice for every one of us, every single day: God or the world.
To be continued.
Glory!
