God knows I don’t know the way
God knows the way is dangerous
That if I go as I please, my way
I turn prey of the treacherous
So God calls me to take His hand
And walk each step with Him
My hands in His, it doesn’t matter
Whether the way be bright or dark
Whether we climb mountains
Descend valleys and turn alleys
My hand in His, I can close my eyes
And walk peace through death, with God.
Many of us are living God’s will without even making any special efforts to find it. Our simple life of faith in God, trust in His faithfulness and obedience to His Word keeps us living the will of God without sweating to find. It is that easy and it is in those simple everyday obedience to the Word of God we know and the promptings of the Holy Spirit that we discern. Perhaps, because it is so plain for many of us who major in the complicated, we spend and are spent trying to find so meek a way of life with God. His will is not complicated. It is so simple that anyone and everyone including children who truly desire, can find and live it to the fullest.
Someone may be saying, “I wish life was that simple!” And I get it. I understand that there are times we find ourselves between mountains or raiders and the Red Sea and we need to hear from God which way lies our escape. In such instances, God is never late in providing instructions on which way we should go. If we haven’t been following in our everyday walk with God, it becomes even harder at such times to figure out the way God would have us walk. But if we have learned to follow in our normal circumstances, it shows in the way we follow in tough times. If we have been faithful with the little things, the way we have learned to walk in the light with God guides the way we walk Him in the dark. If we have been followers in the plain, surely we will know no other or better way than to continue to follow through the mountains and valleys of life.
The problem is that sometimes, the way God is pointing doesn’t appear good enough, it leads through rugged mountains and deserts whereas we already have our eyes fixed on easy escape routes. We end up confused trying to work our will into God’s mouth and have Him say what we want to hear. Still, God is not mocked. God will not be forced to tag our way His to make things easier for us. And God will not abandon us though we encounter losses in the way we have chosen against His. Like a Father, He reveals when we ask. He leads when we follow. He waits when we stray. And when we repent and return, He forgives, receives and continues to lead because He knows the way we don’t, from beginning to end.
When we have formed the habit of pursuing and living God’s will through ordinary instances of life, it is not that hard to seek and find His will in complicated situations. God’s direction is found by those who are hungry to know, willing to seek, for the purpose of sincerely living, what they find. What is special about unveiling God’s will to someone who doesn’t care and won’t live it? Our willingness to know God’s will must be matched by a readiness to obey the revealed will.
