Look into my eyes
You’ll see my heart
Draw nearer to me
You’ll hear my soul
Sit, spend time with me
You’ll know who I am
Wait, stay even longer
And you’ll know me better
When I thought it was time to round up this subject, God brings me right back using notes I made in my bible years back. I love to study the lives of those who love God like I do or how I would love to. One of such men is Abraham. Reviewing his lifestyle especially at that point in time when God asked him to go sacrifice his son, I learned things worth sharing that can help us to find and live God’s will like Abraham did even when God’s will appeared as a threat to his posterity.
Abraham heard God clearly. They had conversations. It’s hard to know someone without a relationship. We all have neighbors that we have no relationship with. In fact, we commune better with friends that live miles away than with these neighbors that are next door. As a result of communication, we know those afar that we have relationships with but cannot claim that we know those nearby that we share nothing with. It’s hard to do the will of someone you don’t know or communicate with. We need to know God to know His will. We need to build relationship with Him through continuous communication. We need ears that listen and hearts that yearn for God because a willing heart is as good as a listening ear. We must hear in order to do and the more we hear God and do what He asks, the more we are able to find, live and abound in His will irrespective of challenging conditions (Matthew 22:1.)
Listen always for His voice and don’t make a show of what you hear. Even after the discussion on sacrificing his son, Abraham disclosed it to no other person- it was between Him and God. We need to learn the difference between private messages and those for public sharing. Some things are just between us and God. Look back and I doubt there is any person who hasn’t suffered the unpleasant consequences of dreams aborted because they were disclosed too soon. Chattering will create distractions, raise resistance, drain your energy and disrupt the mission. There is time for testimonies. If you start testifying too soon, you jeopardize the process and kill the miracle. There is time for listening, time for silence, time for obedience, and time to testify: discerning and walking accordingly saves us a ton (Matthew 22:2.)
Obedience is perishable and procrastination is a repellent. Abraham was set to go ‘early’ the next morning following the discussion with God. There is time for everything. What is timely today maybe be too late tomorrow. We can’t do God’s will at our time. Guess the best time to do what He asks? As early as you can. If God hasn’t put a time to it and He is not taking His usual route of “Wait,” then the best time to start is right now, not later. Those who wait for later never get started. Those who eventually start later, miss it because they get there too late. I’d rather be there too soon than too late. Still better, I’d rather be going early and have God say, “Wait,” than keep Him waiting or worse still, leave Him no choice but to fall back on alternative because I wasn’t ready to follow Him early enough (Matthew 22:3.)
