Everyone to his race, everyone at his pace:
Persevere; don’t quit. Give nothing less than best.
Don’t balk or brag. Don’t drag another down or back.
God uses others yet He alone is our help. Let no man
Morph into god: let God alone be God for you, for all.
Don’t run over another, don’t trample on others
Generous with grace, humble with compassion
Know the lines, respect limits, enjoy moments
Life is taxing: help all you can while you can
Follow the ark, keen, don’t linger, don’t wander
Man your post, work your space in gratitude.
Some will walk with you a while, others some steps
Some will go with you some ways, others a lifetime.
You need not know all the how and when
God caters for the tomorrows you know not
As we cater to the now we know. Mind your walk
God will fix the rest. Keep on until you hear Him say,
“Welcome Home trusted servant and friend!”
Food for Thought: Some of us get overly concerned and are eventually wearied by the businesses of others while ours are left unattended. It is good to be good. It is good to be helped and to be helpful but there is nothing good when helpfulness turns distraction to the detriment of those it was meant to aid. We are not saved to help, we have been saved for God. Our goal is to make it home. Help is part but not the focus of our pilgrimage. The Holy Spirit is the ultimate help that we and everyone else need. God can use us or anyone else to make up for whatever is lacking or needed along the way. It is necessary to be sensitive, to watch for doors that God opens but we are not on those routes to watch, we are travelers going somewhere. Those doors are not the end in themselves. Doors of help are there to encourage, motivate and support our timely arrival home. At the end of the day, Home is the target, help is one of the means by which God makes our journeys easier. It is therefore necessary to understand God’s purpose for each help, to know and respect limits, to stay sensitive to the prodding of our Eternal Help so that we do not miss our way and run in vain. Whatever we do, it is essential that we know our business, mind it, and as we pause or stop to help, to not lose focus and stray from the way that has been marked out for us.
Scripture: His lord said to him, ‘Well done, good and faithful servant; you have been faithful over a few things, I will make you ruler over many things. Enter into the joy of your lord.’ Matthew 25:23.
Prayer: Dear Lord, much as I want to be like You in goodness, may I not be distracted by good works; mine or others; keep my focus ever on You as I travel, doing the needful, amen.
