Awake, awake, O sleeping hope
Enough, enough, be done with sleep.
Day arose, long before dawn
Yet there you lie, snoring still
Get out of bed, get out the door
Before day adorns cloaks of dusk.
See that plot you pass each day
You call it now a cemetery
I say it is a treasure trove
For there sleeps tons and tons of dreams;
Dreams, never again to be roused
Dreams, never again to be helped
Dreams to whom days and dusks
Have all now ceased to mean a thing.
Down there is the lot of everyman
But until then, awake and watch
Time ticks nonstop, not convenient
So awake, awake, while yet you can
Arise and march along, in time.
Wait no more, waste no more
Catch your dreams while yet you live
For time comes when you no more can
Then you can sleep where no work is.
Food For Thought: The majority of us run off in the morning, meandering from traffic to work, hit the traffic again before we finally call it a day. By the time we are home, there’s not much energy left for meaningful engagement. Consequently, the dreams of our youth have been set aside as we daily battle for survival. The quest for daily bread champions the deferral of great dreams, until it is too late or we are too spent. Unconsciously, time rolls on as we strive to make ends meet. Years fly by and before we know it, we are left wondering where time has gone. There will never be a convenient time to live our dreams. The only chance we have is now, tomorrow is not guaranteed. The only choice we have is to make every effort, despite our choking schedules, to squeeze out and devote a little of every day to the dreams that are dear to us. Those who wait until they have it all to live their dream discover too late, that time passed while they waited or pursued survival. A little effort everyday amounts to much over time. If you don’t invest in your dream, nobody else will. If you wait until you have all the time, you may never get there, and if and when you eventually do, you may discover you are too spent to make any meaningful contribution toward its realization. Make that resolve today: to give a little of everyday to nurture your dream to reality.
Scripture: Therefore He says: “Awake, you who sleep, arise from the dead, and Christ will give you light.” Ephesians 5:4.
Prayer: Dear Lord, awaken me from the ruinous slumber of procrastination: awaken me to the dawn of Your glory, amen.
