What fearest thee, o sleeping hope
Why rather hide under the sheets
Than dare a step to chase a dream?
“A fall or two will break my neck
A fall or two, I can’t afford.”
So you choose to sleep and dream
Shunning risky, courting safety
Haven’t you heard: day dreaming
Births nightmares? Sleeping in spring
Leaves one wanting in winter
And hear, you who fear to fail
There is no summer without a fall
So awake, awake, while it yet is day
For the night you dread is close at hand.
Food For Thought: It is so much easier to defer what can be done today than to get up and get it done. “I will do it tomorrow,” sounds smarter than “I won’t,” or “I can’t.” We often feel like time is ours to control; that we have all the time to do what we want when we want to; that time will wait and corporate with us. Yet, nothing is farther from the truth. Time is on assignment that is not tied to our dreams and schedules. Time ticks whether we are asleep or awake, happy or sad, active or dormant. Irrespective of our assumptions and presumptions, time waits for nobody. What does that say to us? You may defer what can be done today but there is no guarantee that abilities and conditions will remain the same tomorrow. The best chance we have to live is not tomorrow when things get better, not later when we have more time – those are but illusions. The best shot we can take at life is now. Whatever you can do now, no matter how little, means so much more than giant dreams and elegant plans that must wait for tomorrow. If your dream will taste reality, you have to give it all you can today.
Scripture: I must work the works of Him who sent Me while it is day; the night is coming when no one can work. John 9:4.
Prayer: Dear Lord, may I be stirred by Your Word, steered into discovering and living Your purpose for my life, amen.
