I lay there, alone in my helplessness
And before my eyes, was hopelessness
Luring, daring, mocking my faith.
“I thought you said He is trustworthy?
You believed He’d love someone like you
That Almighty Sovereignty truly cared
For a gnat like you: that He’d stick with you
No matter what you do, prone to err as you are?
No matter how many times, in how many ways
You miss and lose as you are wont?
You truly believed He’d never get tired
Of bearing with your consistent inconsistencies
That He’d never give up on you even when
You are too quick to give up on Him?”

Food For Thought: What a pity that some can’t bring themselves to believe that God truly cares about them? They think He cares only for the good. But truth be told, who on earth is good without God? Our goodness minus Him is too short-lived and ends up not far from the evil we seek to escape. Some find it hard to believe that God considers them worthy enough to yet have died though it be just for them? Even among believers, some conclude that God is only with us when we are compliant, implying that whenever we err, then we are on our own; without God who cannot stand sin. Yes God is holy yet eternal love compelled Him to come looking for us, seeking fellowship while we were yet sinners. When He came, He wasn’t deceived that we were or ever would attain perfection in this earthen apparel. He knew what He would be faced with, yet He was not deterred. When He promised He would be with us until the end, He knew He was committing for life, for us, and to us. If God has come this far for us, why is it so hard to believe Him who has never lied and never will? What basis have we to doubt God’s love? I find none.

Prayer: Dear Lord, there are voices everywhere I turn, voices I can’t escape: teach me to fill my heart with Your Word, the only way I can silence contrary voices that mock my faith and lure away from You, amen.
