I see that look though I act like I don’t.
I know that glare though I appear I don’t.
I hate that stare but what can I do?
What do you do when they see you coming
And faces fall, voices drop, postures shift –
You read the change: drama is here again!
When did my life become a dilemma?
How did I turn repellant? Where are those
I called friends? When things go askew
False friends drop through the cracks
And true friends come through.
Food For Thought: So engrossed in checking others out, we fail to realize that we are equally on the scale, being measured as well. People put moves they are sure you won’t get and I wonder, how can a smart person think knowledge is limited to only them? Beyond words and acts, our attitude speaks louder, of what we think of others. We can manage those attitudes but sometimes, they are so overwhelming or we are so carried away we don’t realize the silent vibes we send out. Unfortunately, glossy words do not mask trashy attitudes. There is the tendency to treat people according to their situations but if we are sincere, we’ll all agree that people are more than their circumstances. People are more than they appear. People are more than what they are going through. Appearances and experiences are temporal and we miss it when we limit our regards to those. Irrespective of their limitations in life, every human being is deserving of love and if you can’t give that, the least you can be is kind, respectful, in words and in deed because it matters.
Scripture: A man who has friends must himself be friendly, but there is a friend who sticks closer than a brother. Proverbs 18: 24.
Prayer: Dear Lord, I have failed friends and friends have failed me because we are all human: please help me to be the kind of friend that I desire, amen.
