Every day comes and goes
Bringing something new and different
Though I see nothing new or different
Yet they are there for those who look
Without bias, with eyes of hope.
Every day comes and goes
Bringing unique choices my way
They may appear like no options
Which is a choice I’ve made, to see.
Every day comes and goes
Bringing something I need today
To make me ready for tomorrow
Though these I fail to see and use
Yet they come and go alike:
Help me O God to always choose
To view every new day with new eyes
Because truly every day is not the same.
Food For Thought: The weariness of life leaves us so shortsighted that every single day that comes our way appears an addendum to the yesterdays that failed us. They appear as same day that recycles same old troubles. Nothing we see is different from day to day, not the days and not the issues we are dealing with. As a result, we keep applying the same principles that left us bereft yesterday, hoping they will leave us better today. Unfortunately, we have consciously or unconsciously chosen to allow shortsightedness and wrong attitude, rob us of the zest we need to apply fresh approaches that could deliver the change we yearn. Instead, disappointment piles on, making today appear so dark that yesterday seems to have been brighter. Despair overshadows hope and life turns a drag we must lug along from day to day. We wish but wishes without appropriate vision, attitude and effort yield the same old song we so long to change. We blame everyone and everything else except us and the choices we make, which are the real culprits. Every day, we have the chance to make fresh choices; to see the day as new, to approach the issues even if they appear same in a little different way, and who knows, a slight change in attitude can be the difference that works the wonders we desire.
Scripture: And if it seems evil to you to serve the Lord, choose for yourselves this day whom you will serve, whether the gods which your fathers served that were on the other side of the River, or the gods of the Amorites, in whose land you dwell. But as for me and my house, we will serve the Lord.” Joshua 24: 15.
Prayer: Dear Lord, give me eyes that see, to appreciate and exploit the newness of every day, amen.
